The
Beaverdale Volunteer Fire Department hosts one of the more challenging
poker runs in the state. Located just east of Johnstown, Beaverdale
is a small town who packs a big punch when it comes to ATV recreation.

They
are also the host for the famous “Beaverdale Hill climb”.
The old coal mining community offers some outstanding water crossings,
mud holes, coal piles and tough trails. |

The
very first challenge within 100 yards of the starting gate is a nasty
creek crossing. This baby is full of big rock and hidden holes! Motorcycles
rarely made it to the other side and often “bought the farm”
in the middle leaving bike and rider soaked to the bone! |

Although
most of the trails were through the woods, some power lines and fields
were used to access more ground. An old strip area made for some excellent
mud slinging and bud bog runs, which were easily discovered by the
big 4x4’s. This area seemed to be the main attraction until
the owner showed up! |

Deep
inside the woods, there were several huge mud pits to challenge the
riders who laughed at the thought of being stuck! A few local guys
(our own “Outlawed Wolvy”) had Bigfoot kits and snorkels
aboard for the real stuff (not shown). Areas like these offered a
four-wheeler’s paradise and made for some great entertainment.

Like
most other poker runs, Checkpoints were scattered throughout the trials
system. There, you will find the basic repair items and a helping
hand if needed. Courtesy vehicles were on available for the wounded
machines. |

The
second checkpoint was a good place to take a break and get a bite
to eat. On sale were crout dogs, chips and soda, which tasted great
with a side of mud! |

The
trials were quite challenging. Water was abundant. Mud holes were
everywhere. Every now and then, a hill climb would pop up or sometimes
play areas left behind from the old coal mining days. This place
is a first class ride with a little bit of everything. The first
round was tough…the second round priceless! It was a long
ride home.
