2nd Annual Atv and Dirtbike Rally... Edinboro, Pennsylvania.

Otherwise known as the Edinboro Poker Run,

the 2nd Annual Atv and Dirt bike Rally came through with another fine event. Fortunately, this years ride was escorted by sunshine and warm temperatures...compared to last years horrifying blizzards of snow, sleet, rain and hail...all combined with a taste of mud....

The Mountain View Ski Resort in Edinboro, Pa hosted the event. Owner Laurie Showman was brave enough to give it another try despite the major on taking of last years rally. This time, it proved to be quite enjoyable and much less work for the staff and surrounding farmers

The rally started off in a large field just north of the ski resort and finished it's final moments winding up and down the ski slopes of Mountain View.
I always wanted to ride my ATV on a ski slope...too bad it wasn't in the middle of winter! The first check stop was to see the ladies at the registration tables...provided that you were not pre-registered. Although pre-registration was required this year, it will only be an option on the possible 3rd annual rally. Attendance did prove to be a bit low because of this, but it made for some excellent trail riding.

The first trip (of two rounds) got us up and running with the dirt bikes...which made for some great white-knuckle riding! The trails were in great condition and well marked. Each section of woods carved through parcels of land and would normally break onto a gravel road for a refreshing breath of cool air...then quickly return into another parcel. Flagmen (and women) were posted at all major intersections for safety and directions.

There were many stream crossings, which were bridged over for environmental concerns. Chicken routes were available for less-skilled riders who preferred not to take on the hill climbs and more difficult sections.
For the 4x4 enthusiast, there was a large pit area of swampy muck with holes that ate ATV's for a light snack. Most who dared the middle needed winched out....or went down with the ship! This was undoubtedly the hotspot for rubberneckers to hang out and cheer them on. It didn't take much to convince several guys to make another pass after showing up with a camera in my hands.

Halfway through the trail system, we arrived at the mid-point check stop for a FREE LUNCH. All riders were offered a huge hotdog, potato chips, candy bar and bottled soft drink. On hand, were the guys from Cycle City in Erie, Pa.
They were offering free trial rides of the new Kawasaki 650 4x4. They also had the basics on hand for any repair needs that the riders encountered.
As the event came to a close, riders were reminded to check their helmet stickers for possible winnings.

Door prizes were given out in a random drawing...donated from local atv shops and retail stores. Shirts and hats were also available to take home. This event was well put together and quite professional. The trails were fun and surprising, but not overwhelming to the inexperienced rider.
Thanks to Laurie and all the helpers...sure hope that you give it another whirl next year!
