The Grand Opener of poker runs for the 2002 season started off as a huge success for the members of the Shortcreek Sportsmans Association. Compared to last years high of 1800, this year started off with a whopping 3150 in attendance. Riders arrived throughout the day on Friday, traveling from 6 different states. The camping area was quickly filled with tents, motorhomes, pop-ups and cargo trailers.

The day proved to be ideal until Mother Nature came in with a vengeance after supper time. The wind blew, the snow flew, missed me and hit you! Temps dove into the low 20's through the night. By morning, the grassy hillside was covered with an inch of fresh powder. Needless to say, spirits were high as riders prepped their machines for the day ahead.
The trail system, one way travel, clocked just over 28 miles on our new Trail Tech Computer. Using proceeds from last year, club members purchased additional acreage which allowed for some new sections to the trail. The travel route was also ran in reverse order to give it a fresh look. Most riders who love the taste of mud had their fair share of it. The watering holes were full of atv's who wanted a challenge. Each of these held at least 100 spectators to watch and cheer on the riders who attempted to conquer the Rumble on the Ridge.

As usual, the event was well organized...perhaps on of the best. Riders were registered upon arrival and given a handlebar tag for each machine. Parking was manned with several attendants and the lines were quickly disbursed. A new pavilion hosted the goodie area...including coffee, pop, chicken dinners, breakfast sandwiches and more. Hats and T's were available for sale.
4 more Rumbles are scheduled for 2002 including MAY 25, JULY 6, AUGUST 3 and AUGUST 31. There will be two atv's raffled off at the July event. Tickets are currently on sale and will be collected up to and including July 6th. Winners will be chosen at the end of the day. The Rumble on the Ridge is located near Adena, Ohio...just across the Pa border. If you've never attended this one, you're missing out!
