The Tri-County poker run season got underway with the first of three runs in April 2002. This year, the club is hosting their events on a newly acquired piece of ground (formerly held at Dog Hollow Speedway) in Heilwood, Pa, which was partially funded from previous events. Club members also constructed a new pavilion on the premises to help with club rides, picnics and registration for upcoming poker runs.

Inside, club members cooked up sloppy Joes and hot dogs. Hats and T's were available for purchase as well.

The new trail system rounds off at approximately 25 miles of woodsy trails. There are a few open strip mine fields, but most riding takes place on tight trails consisting of mud, strip dirt, old railroad beds, some rocky sections and lots of monster mud holes! There aren't many "play areas" but there are some hill climb areas along the way...some of which don't see ATV traffic at all!
The trail entrance was set up as a coalmine entrance with a 100-foot tunnel to begin your ride. Although a fake mine, most every rider stopped to look inside to determine their fate before entering. What a clever idea.

The rain seemed to hold back the crowd. 525 riders showed up to beat Mother Nature..., which has been pretty rough on the spring season thus far. Checkpoints were set up along various locations throughout the course. There, you reached into the bag for the magic ticket to claim a door prize.

The biggest challenge at Tri-County is the mud holes! Several machines sucked in brown water while trying to make it through. Of course, there were ways around the holes if you chose not to go swimming. Staff members were on hand to tow the less unfortunate out of the deep.

Registration for the Poker Runs begins at 9am at the pavilion. Cost is $15.00 per driver and an additional $5.00 for passengers. Proceeds for the events go to the purchase of more land, as well as rescue equipment for the club. They plan on getting an ATV for medical use with a backboard/basket and other equipment needed for search and rescue.

The club is currently working on a new area, which will host an ATV drag strip and sled pull runway. Talks are underway on hosting an ATV Rally in the summer of 2002. The other poker runs are scheduled for July 28th and September 22nd.
