Editor's note, I have got to get me one of these!!!,hmmm I wonder how this setup would work on the new Honda "450". Can you say, 85 hp and reel bad gas mileage.

Everyone who reads Turbo Magazine knows Puerto Rico is a mecca for import performance; enthusiasts down there love their turbos

Note turbo intake under right fender.

When Malvin Quinones became bored with his Honda 400EX ATV, the Laws of Logical Progression led him to boost. The fact that Quinones is also the owner of Turbo Tech, a tuning shop in Aguada, meant he had the facilities and expertise to do the job right. Quintos called on Turbo Engineering Corporation (TEC) to figure out which turbo would work on the 397 cc single-piston four-stroke engine. TEC's Mike Frank came up with an IHI RHB3 model turbocharger.

Quinones employed Arcangle JR to fabricate an exhaust manifold to position the "hair dryer," while he and Bernardo Cortez, of Junior Racing Watercraft and ATV, set off to upgrade the Honda's fuel system.

Guages moniter system performance

Final configuration included upgrading to a 39-millimeter carb, and installing a high-flow fuel pump with a boost-dependent pressure regulator.

With fuel needs addressed, Quinones looked at the ancillary parts he needed and elected to go HKS. An HKS Super powered flow filter, sequential blow-off valve, 650 cfm air-to-air intercooler, an EVC boost controller, a turbo timer, and a host of HKS gauges were called into action. The finial piece of the puzzle was joining everything together and making an exhaust system.

Quinones, with the help of his amigo Tito, of Aguada muffler shop, put the whole assembly together.

Quinone now rides the "King" of ATVs. On the dyno, a stock 400ex managed 24.7 Hp to the wheels. With Quinones' boosted monster on the rollers, power nearly doubled as the single-cylinder engine screamed to 48.2 Hp. That power level will "get it done."
