I always get up before everyone else,
so as I ambled
outside at the crack of dawn, I gazed upon a beautiful clear
sky & got
excited about day # 2 of our three day weekend! Wasn't long
before Russ
showed up with his fire breathing " RAPTOR " for
the Ashland to Shamokin run to tear up some hills &
fast trails!!!!!!
|
|
|
|
As I
rousted our sleepy riders
from day # 1 from their warm beds, I heard a few groans & grunts,
but before long our trucks were loaded & headed for Ashland for
another day of chasing " SPEEDY RACER " up one mountain
& down another. As we unloaded our quads spirits were high &
I promised more & BIGGER hills than yesterday! A few snickers
from our newest members meant there was some doubt, considering what
they rode on the day before!

|
So
in a cloud of dust we headed out for " THREE
CORNERS ", the ULTIMATE place in the area to HILL CLIMB!!!!!!!
Something for everyone!!!!! But on the opposite side of the
road is where the SERIOUS HILLS tower over the surrounding town!!!
The HILL CLIMBS are hundreds of feet high & a hundred or
more climbs traverse all around the top as you see first hand
from the TOP!!!!!! When we arrived at Three Corners, about 20
quads from Carlisle, Pa were already BLASTING up & down
the slopes!!! The new guys were totally amazed at what they
were witnessing!!!!!!!! |
|
|
|
Russ
& his RAPTOR & me and my 440EX blasted up some of the
same hills as the group from Carlisle. Josh & his 350X 3-wheeler
attempted to do the same, but had to be rescued & guided
back down the hill! But after a few unsuccessful tries he scratched
& clawed his way up!!!!!! Good job JOSH!!!!!!!! After playing
around a little more we headed across the mountains for some
hot lunch at Walmart & some gas at a small local food mart.
Once our bellies were full & quads gassed up, we headed
further out into the mountains. Our next stop was a SERIOUS
hill climb that only Russ & his "RAPTOR " was
brave enough to challenge |
|
|
|
|
Russ is one of the better
hill
climbers I know, so we all stood back & watched in amazement
as he BLASTED up
the damn thing!!!!!!! [Unable to display image] NO ROOM FOR
ERROR!!!!!!!!!!!! Russ was definitely the hill climber of
the day!!!!!!!!!
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
The rest
of our day was uneventful until we arrived at Kulpmont & let the
new guys play around! Drag races up some smaller hills ensued as Russ
& I watched from atop a small knoll |
|
|
Josh &
his 3-wheeler kept on goading me to race & finally in order to
get some peace & quiet I raced him & promptly kicked his
butt! Josh mumbled something about getting major air. Once over the
top I
headed to go back down to the hill climbs, I heard a quad screaming
up the
opposite side of the hill, so I slowed to make sure I was out of his
way, but
Josh didn't get someone to clear everyone out before he jumped!!!
Next thing I know I see a 3-wheeler TOTALLY air borne headed right
at my quad and I !!!!!!!!! At the last second I bailed to my left
just as Josh & his bike impacted my quad!!!!
|
|
This old man can move
FAST if he is SCARED!!!!!
Thanks to a chest protector & helmet, Josh was a little
bruised & nomore!!
|
|
|
But
his 3-wheeler was DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Severely bent & twisted
front end!!!!! NO MORE RIDING for that ATV!!!!!!!!!!!!!The "
440EX " suffered a slightly bent front bumper & misaligned
headlights. Once it was determined hospitalization was not required
we left another rider with Josh & headed across the mountains
at a brisk pace to get our rigs & return to Atlas to extract
our damaged ATV & rider. |
|
|
|
|
|
Once wounded rider & ATV were loaded up we
headed back to Motel 6 to lick our wounds & service our quads
in preparation of Ride # 3 on Sunday!!!!!!!! Prior to Josh's lapse
in good
judgment we had a wonderful day!!!! Could have been ALOT worse!!!!
The locals who were riding in the same location as the wreck wore
NO HELMETS!
Can you imagine if this would have happened to them???????? Would
not have been a pretty picture! So ALWAYS wear your helmets &
safety gear!!!!!!!!!!! Well time to rest this 52 year old body,
so I can take a THIRD group in asmany days for another " EAST
COAST SPEED BALL " run across the mountains of Pennsylvania
Sunday morning.
GOOD NITE!!!!!!!! SPEEDY RACER
